You earn a time credit by doing something for someone. As long as that “something” is positive we are willing to give you time credit for it. Then you turn around and spend that time credit anywhere in the online community.  By spending that credit, you are giving other time bank members time credits to spend, improving their lives and helping to create a new economy that isn't based upon money.

Requests are very basic things that people already do. The request might say "Please help...".  Then you say to yourself, "I did help!  I helped with all my heart! I volunteered 8 hours this week!"  So you click on that request and get your 8 time credits.

Click on a Request any time you volunteer to help a friend, an organization, a church, or a project.  These are things that you are already doing, but are not receiving payment in return because you are not looking for monetary rewards.  Requests provide a unique format that allows our members to quickly chalk up credits for what they are already doing and then encourages them to spend these credits to share the wealth with others. Time credits don't earn interest, so you might as well spend them as soon as you get them.

When you are rich with time credits, you can make requests in your local area by explaining the time bank concept.  Ask your local watch repair man if he would be willing to receive time credits for fixing your watch.  Ask your local maid service if anyone on their staff would be willing to work for time credits.  Ask your local Dentist if he would be willing to take time credits.  It doesn't mean that ALL of their clients will pay with time, but they can decide on a case by case basis and limit the number of time bank clients they are willing to service. When you help others sign up to receive their credits, this will build your local network, as well as the world-wide network and take steps towards a new economy.

Transition Away From Money

A step between capitalism and a gift economy.

The gift economy promotes the idea of making sure every man woman and child has food shelter and clothing before expecting them to be a contributing member of society. Take care of basic survival and each individual will soar to their highest potential without preoccupation with the acquisition of these basic human needs.

Time Banks are springing up all over the world. This is new way of doing business that combines your gifts, your talents, your career and your life purpose. Offer what you have. Request what you desire. It's that simple. A time bank will calculate the hours you give and the hours you receive.

Time Banks provide the opportunity to employ those who would not ordinarily have a place in today's marketplace. The unemployed, under employed, handicapped, and mentally disabled may have important services they can provide to the overwhelmed mother or the struggling business owner. In exchange, the business owner might help a disabled veteran put up a website that would give him the opportunity to make a living through an online business. Not a hand out, but definitely a service based on charity and love.

  • Get someone to help you make those business phone calls that would really help your business take off.
  • Get someone to come in and clean your home while you catch up on some much needed rest.
  • Get someone to cook a meal for your family while you are away.

Why not?  You have done much for others.  Is it okay to keep that spirit going by taking it in and sending it back out?

Hub-Om Time Banking is a First Step

hub-om iconTime Banking is a first step along the path of giving and receiving to build supportive networks and strong communities.  The software then links these strong communities together to form a world system with a new economy.

One hour of helping a friend earns one Time Bank Hour (also called time credits, service credits or time dollars.)

Time Banking builds on the magic of “pay it forward,” one good turn leading to another and another.

These hours are very valuable and every member's work has the same value: one hour for one hour.  This means that every person has the exact same amount to exchange: 24 hours a day.

Each request posted on the world-wide time bank system is an opportunity for you to earn extra income, if you are able to fill that request.  Conversely, when you take an offer posted, essentially you are giving someone a way to earn extra income.

Who can be involved in Time Banking?

Individuals, groups, organizations, government agencies, churches, and businesses can become members, and contribute time, energies, skills and resources while at the same time requesting help with their projects or needs.

Anyone can earn time credits by contributing to others.  Any age and any level of ability.  Even children can earn credits for doing their chores or mowing the neighbor's lawn. And you can pay the neighbor boy with time bank credits to wash your car or take your dog for a walk.

Likewise, anyone who has earned time credits can spend them on any offer in the world. Or they can pass on the time credits to others who may need them more.
