- Security, safety
- Basic needs (food, sleep, shelter, self-preservation, etc.)
- Physicality, physical identity and aspects of self
- Support and foundation for living our lives
The root chakra provides the foundation on which we build our lives. It supports us in growing and feeling safe to explore all the aspects of life. It is related to our feelings of safety and security, whether it’s physical or regarding our bodily needs or metaphorical needs such as housing and financial security. The first chakra questions focus on the idea of survival and safety. The root chakra is where we ground ourselves to the earth and anchor our energy into the world we live in.
We observe that as we humans become more "civilized" our list of basic needs continually grows longer. One of the factors that influence our sense of security is the ability to differentiate the "needs" that must be included on the list from "wants" that may or may not bring security.
