The heart is much more than a pump that moves the blood through the bloodstream. We are now learning that the heart is an intelligence that commands the brain with wisdom and intuition. This is why we are often advised to "follow our hearts."
The heart chakra influences how you relate to others. When the heart chakra is open, you may feel deeply connected by a harmonious exchange of energy with all that is around you. True appreciation of beauty. Opening the heart opens the door to the higher chakras.
However, when there’s a blockage in the heart chakra, you may experience difficulties relating to others, such as excessive jealousy, codependency, or being withdrawn.
Issue: Emotional Trauma
The heart chakra is particularly vulnerable to trauma in relationships and love. From the moment we’re conceived there are many positive and negative experiences regarding love and relating to others. We may decrease or increase the energy that we send to the heart in response to these experiences.
We might hold back energy from our heart chakra to avoid suffering. This means we take a step back and become numb.
We might over-extend our energy. This means we launch forward and become drained.
We might block all incoming and outgoing energy from our heart chakra to end all possibility of injury. This means we put on blinders and become oblivious to our emotions and the emotions of others.
These defense mechanisms can cause imbalance in the energy we send to the heart chakra leading to overactive, deficient or blocked energy flow.
